Looking at old family pictures, I see myself, a kid with pencil and paper in hand. I believe that was the start of my interest in learning how to draw at an early age. All the while I was growing up, I became more interested to put details and colors in my drawings and paintings.

At age 14, I took photography lessons and started to look at objects differently by observing light and composition. Working with Pastels taught me how to blend colors and overlay them to get a different value and hue. This was exciting but still, I was looking for something else. In 1986, I bought my first Watercolor Tubes and that was it. Since then, I began exploring the Medium and learning the possibilities. Self teaching was hard but I enjoyed the challenges. Failure in one painting was discovering a new technique for another painting. How to create texture was another joy, like a game to find new ways to paint better. With a limited palette, I create unity and mood in my paintings.

Being self taught, I don’t follow the rules. For me it’s very simple, I see a brush, paints, paper and water and again, I’m that little kid in those old family photos.
